violence, there are resources available. You may seek a domestic violence protective order, which is a court order that tells the abuser to stay away from you and can also evict him from your home and tell him to stay away from your children.

Each County’s courthouse should have fill in the blank forms available for you to fill out with the details of the incidents so that a Judge can assess the situa- tion to see if a protective order should be granted and attorneys who practice family law can assist you in seeking and obtaining relief through the courts. If you need additional information, there is a national domestic violence hotline: 800 799 SAFE (7233) and in Mecklen- burg County, which is where I practice, there is an agency called Victim Assis-

tance, which assists women in filling out the paperwork for seeking a domestic violence protective order and assists women in court. The phone number for Victim Assistance is: (704) 336-4126.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, seek help. If someone you know is a vic- tim of domestic violence, let them know that you are there to help them. ●
