Automation upgrades at Sofidel’s Délipapier tissue plant
and water treatment systems at its Délipapier plant in Frouard, France. The order includes upgrades
T
to Metso DNA and Metso IQ quality control systems, including a non-nuclear Metso IQ Fiber Weight Measurement, and related comprehensive product training. Délipapier Paper’s mill director
François Lecomte commented: “This significant upgrade will enhance productivity, allowing Délipapier to bring better quality to its customers, especially for the flagship brands
he Sofidel Group in France has ordered automation packages from Metso for its TM1 tissue machine
of Sopalin and Le Trèfle in France along with Lotus and Moltonel in Benelux.’” Improved process control will
strengthen Sofidel’s commitment to protect the environment, says Metso. Sofidel is the only Italian company and the first worldwide in the tissue sector (paper for hygienic and domestic use) to sign up to WWF’s Climate Savers programme. Délipapier started up in 1999 with automaton systems from Metso which continue in operation. More than 12 years after startup, the mill wanted to upgrade its existing control system to benefit from the latest available process
Drum pulping system for Taishan Gypsum’s Tai’an paper mill
China’s Taishan Gypsum has ordered a FibreFlow drum pulper from Andritz for its paper mill in Tai’an City, Shandong province. The mill, which produces high- quality mask paper for gypsum board, expects start up to be in March 2014. Taishan Gypsum is the leading Chinese manufacturer of high- quality gypsum board and frame series for interior decoration. The company, with a production capacity of 1.2 billion square meters of gypsum board per year, serves the domestic market and also exports to countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, India, and Russia. Low energy consumption,

exceptionally high availability, and low operating costs of the FibreFlow system, which has a capacity of 800 tons a day, were decisive in making the order. The project also includes engineering, erection work supervision, start-up, training, as well as a spare and wear part package. The raw material treated by
Taishan Gypsum consists of one- half LOCC (local old corrugated containers) and one-half AOCC (American old corrugated containers). The Andritz FibreFlow drum pulper is used for pulping all kinds of recycled paper grades – slushing of paper and separation of contaminants are handled in a single unit.
and system improvements. With this upgrade, the mill aims
to implement new hardware and software to increase the stability of the tissue making process, to improve production efficiency, to boost automation availability and to get process visibility and better operability thanks to easy production and process data communication, reporting and alarm handling. Metso says the upgrade will
be implemented using innovative virtualization technology, which aims at delivering more flexible data centres to reduce costs thanks to server consolidation. This solution will significantly reduce the number
of computers normally required for an upgrade and thus decrease both the purchase cost of computers and cabinets, and the operating expenses of such devices, together with the space needed to install them. Virtualization enables Metso to
deliver efficient remote support and maintenance of the control system over its entire lifecycle. Patch deployment, server maintenance, software compatibility and further upgrades can all be executed more efficiently.
Délipapier is owned by Italian
group Sofidel, the second largest manufacturer of paper for hygiene and domestic use in Europe.
Mexico’s Propasa increases
its board capacity With the objective of increasing production of board by up to a quarter to nearly 500 tons a day, Propasa in Mexico had its PM3 production line rebuilt by Voith. The project’s first part included the supply of a MasterJet Pro F/B headbox with ModuleJet II dilution control as well as the rebuild of the forming section including a DuoShake that allows for greater homogeneity in the paper web formation. In addition, the reel and winder were modernised. In a second step, the dryer section was rebuilt when two dryer sections were added to the machine, increasing the machine’s speed with completion of the project in July. Propasa also utilised Voith’s basic engineering services for the steam and condensate, lubrication, ventilation and vacuum systems.
Shortly after start-up, the machine was said to be producing saleable paper and there was a visible improvement in product quality. With this outcome, the company has taken an important step towards consolidating the group’s growth in highly competitive markets such as Mexico and the USA. Propasa (Productora de Papel
SA de CV) has been making paper products for more than 70 years, and is dedicated to the production of coated cardboard and liner, corrugated medium and white top liner. In recent years the company has expanded its production capacity with sales to markets in Mexico, USA and Central America. More information from the
