More automation systems and drives for China market
H
engan International Group, one of the largest manufacturers of hygiene products
in China, and Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing, a leading carton paper manufacturer, have ordered high-efficiency drives and automation control products from ABB to help achieve more efficient and stable operations. ABB will provide Hengan Group with leading drives for eight new papermaking machines, and complete solutions including drives and automation control systems for the 300,000 ton per year carton paper production line of Lee & Man Paper. Erik Oja, Head of Process
Automation Division at ABB North Asia and China, said, “China is the world’s largest papermaker, but the industry is currently undergoing structural adjustments and transformation. “ABB is a leading supplier in the global pulping and papermaking industry with the most complete
automation, instruments, and electrical devices. We are proud to lead the development of automation technologies in the global Pulp & Paper market. “ABB will continue to uphold its ‘In China and For China’ strategy and contribute to the sustainable development of the industry by providing innovative technologies and leading solutions to help Chinese papermakers achieve industrial modernization.” Raw material and energy
consumption constitute the major
operating cost for papermakers. ABB says the integrated control systems supported by its Drives and Quality Control Systems ensure maximum uptime and the best use of raw materials to reduce waste and minimise paper break to increase the output and qualification rate of production. ABB says its control systems
improve operating efficiency up to 99 per cent, while its drives significantly reduce the energy consumption of industrial motors to help customers make savings in
operating costs. In 1994, ABB set up its Pulp & Paper organisation in China. In 2010, ABB moved its manufacturing base for Quality Control Systems and Web Imaging devices in Shanghai. This base has helped complete more than 500 projects in China. ABB’s industry solutions have been widely applied to leading papermakers both home and abroad, including UPM, Stora Enso, APP, Hengan Group, Nine Dragons Paper, Lee & Man Paper, and Huatai Group. Hengan Group has maintained a partnership with ABB since 1996 and drives, process control systems, motor control systems, and power distribution systems account for 80 per cent of all electric and automation systems used by its 17 papermaking machines. Since 1996, all of Lee & Man Paper’s electric and automation systems for 12 papermaking machines and three pulp mills have been solely provided by ABB.
Energy and water savings from a lubrication system
Brazil’s Oji Papéis Especiais has ordered an innovative lubrication system for suction roll sealing strips at its Piracicaba speciality paper mill in São Paulo state. The HydroSeal system
developed by Voith is said to prevent sheet rewetting and dramatically reduces water consumption. Oji’s speciality paper mill
produces nearly 120,000 metric tons of thermal paper, carbonless copy paper and coated paper. The new HydroSeal is expected to be
September 2013
in operation from mid-September. A considerable reduction
in water consumption will be achieved with HydroSeal, as well as providing a performance improvement in the transfer suction roll operating between the second and third press of the PM2 line at Oji. HydroSeal replaces current
conventional seals and lubricating showers installed in suction rolls in favour of a more efficient seal system that distributes the lubricant film more evenly over
the entire width of the sealing strip. The system reduces water consumption while minimizing sheet rewetting, which in turn improves the CD moisture profile. This system enables paper manufacturers to disable conventional shower systems regardless of the suction roll type or manufacturer. Trials carried out in Germany demonstrate that by using HydroSeal, paper makers can achieve yearly savings of approximately €100,000, since
water and energy consumption can be reduced by up to 87 per cent and 9 per cent respectively. The Oji Paper Group was
founded in Japan in 1873, currently employs more than 26,000 in four continents, and operates more than 300 subsidiaries and manufacturing units. The Japanese group acquired the speciality paper manufacturing plant at Piracicaba in 2011. More information from Voith at
