ROYAL WELSH SHOW September 2013 Horses lead the way


THOUSANDS of horses stepped into the rings at the Royal Welsh Show to contest some of the toughest competitions in


the world. Morethan 3,000 horses and


ponies passed beforethe eyes of the judges at the showand the levelofentries wasmatched by the hordes of spectators who crowded around the main ring to see the spectacle forthemselves. No one could fail to be


impressed by the standardondis- play, especiallywhen it came to


the supreme horse championship, which wastaken by the outstand- ing Section Cbrood mareSynod LadyLillian,


Williams,ofCastleton, Cardiff. The ridden championship went


to Leo Bowen, of NewBridge Farm,Crundale,Pembrokeshire, with champion showhunter pony Helsington Material Girl. Standing ahead of the rest in


the ever-popular Welsh Cob classes wasstallion Trevallion Black-Harry,who ensured the journey from Kent wasworth it forowner M. T. Attrell as he took home the coveted George


Prince of Wales championship cup.


Elegance and style were the from Gareth


order of the dayinthe side saddle Concours D’Elegance,the first time the classes have been held at the RoyalWelsh Show, with Charlotte Ashbythe inuagural champion with PickmereAmrita. And in the week when the


worldwelcomed anew prince into the Royalfamily, Her Majesty the Queen receivedmore good news when her horse Barber Shop waschosen as the champion retrained racehorse. Horses also provided some spectacular entertainment at the show, thanks to the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, along with the mounted games and inter-hunt relaycompetitions.
