IF EVER proof were needed that west Wales is one of the coun- try’s best dairying regions, then there is no better place to look
than the Royal Welsh Show. Cows from west Wales made up all five
finalists in the line-up forthe dairy inter- breed supreme title. Taking the top honours wasthe Holstein from the Wilson family, of Tregibby Farm,Gwbert Road, Cardigan, with second calver WillsbroGoldwyn Kitty 5. Currentlyproducing 45kg aday after calving in October,judge Colin Jones,ofKidwelly, tapped out the Holstein forher ‘tremendous’ udder and veination and hailed her as one of the best cows in the
country.The champion cow also picked up an armful of other tro- phies,including best udder and the Fitzhugh championship,providing the icing on the cakefor JimmyWilson, who is currentlythe president of Holstein UK.

ed the group of five competition, with the exceptionallywell-balanced Simmentals taking the honours ahead of the team of Charolais. The native beef breed championship
waswon by Carwyn Lewis with his Welsh Black bull Graig-Goch Berwyn 74th.
