Another record breaker


THE Royal Welsh Show celebrated 50 years on its permanent site at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells by break-


ing attendance records once again. The showbeatthe recordset just last year


of its highest-everattendance of 241,781, thanks to another record-breaking day. The RoyalWelsh Agricultural Society


(RWAS) thought the 2012 attendance of 241,099 appeared unbeatableuntil the biggest one-dayfigureof72,315 on the third dayofthe showmade it achievable. The presence of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, helped to swell the crowds, whoenjoyedfour days of sunny weather.Later,the prince sent amessage of thanks to the society forthe warm welcome they had received. The show’sorganisers were delighted with


the success of what they described as atrou- ble-free show.


“This is apeople’sshow


and the people have spo- kenout in the past few days,” said the chairman of the RWAS board, John Davies,who farms in Pembrokeshire. “Wehavemanaged once


again to replicate the suc- cess of the society in the name of our nation. “Aswereflect on 50 years at Llanelwedd


our forefathers must be looking down and saying ‘job well done’.” The success of the show, which generates


around £40m ayear would also give ahuge boost to the economy, he said. The showalso created arecordmember-


ship of 19,700 forthe society and attracted an attendance of nearly 1,000 overseas visi- tors.
