THEATRE IS YOURS TO

EXPLORE August starts as July ended at Norwich Teatre Royal, sailing the high seas with Sinbad and the Pirate Curse. Te show is a new family musical adventure, performed by over 200 students drawn from the Teatre Royal’s training courses. Te show runs until Sat 3rd August and is suitable for the whole family. Continuing the family fun, Milkshake! Live comes to the theatre on Sun 4th, featuring characters and presenters from the Channel 5 kids programming. Ten for a show that’s definitely not-safe-for-kids – household comic and controversial presenter, Jimmy Carr returns to Norwich for a sold-out show on Mon 5th August. It’s a brand new show, but those lucky punters with a ticket are guaranteed a 10/10 performance from the 8/10 Cats presenter. From 6th – 10th August, the theatre will be imbued with Irish spirit, as Spirit of the Dance comes to the city. Te award-winning show is back by popular demand and showcases traditional Irish dance to the backdrop of sensual Latino rhythms of Flamenco and Red Hot Salsa in a thrilling production of strength and passion. Finishing the run of shows, Dreamboats and Petticoats starts its run on Monday 26th – 31st August, sharing with the audience the best hits of the rock ‘n’ roll era. Finally, if you’ve ever wondered just how these shows get from booking to the raising of the red curtain, you can take a behind- the-scenes look at the free Teatre Royal Open Day on Sat 24th Aug; see the dressing rooms where the stars prepare for their performances; have a go at lighting, sound, ‘flying’ and stage management or even stand centre-stage in the spotlight. It’s yours to explore for a day!

NORWICH IS LOOKING PEACHY

Many revelers will already have experienced the unique flavours of Peachy, the regular club event now held on the last Friday of the month at the Waterfront. Combining live music, film, DJs, walkabout performance, circus and fire performance, Peachy is for people who don't fit easily into boxes. Te Peachy Promoters welcome open-minded straight people as well as open-minded gay, lesbian and trans people. Tey say, “We like people who like to dance, and we love people who like waking up with glitter under their nails. Each event is themed, and we encourage people to dress up, but are equally happy if you're more comfortable in a T-shirt. We want you to have fun however you choose to express yourself on the night. So come on down - we think you'll find it drippeth goodness.” August’s Peachy falls on Friday 30th and promises larks-a-plenty with this month’s theme being the ‘Warriors’ film. With residencies from Te Now or Never Film Club showing unusual films from the 1920s onwards, as well as their resident fire and circus performers Miracle Cyanide and resident DJs, Jonathing vs Papa Deli playing dance anthems, breaks, jungle, drum ‘n’ bass and old midlands hardcore, this month, they’re also upping the arty by inviting artist Jake Whitbread AKA ‘Peaceful Warrior’ to do a live drawing throughout the night, which will be available to buy at the end of the evening’s festivities. HELP RECORD STORE

BLOSSOM You may feel it’s enough that you donated a fiver to Children In Need last year at the sight of a weeping Harry Styles, or said you’d take part in a sponsored run that never really took off (it’s the thought that counts, isn’t it?). But maybe this month, you could pool together with a few of your mates to support Blossom Records, one of Norwich’s independent record shops. Blossom Records has dreams to expand their horizons, offer up to 5 new jobs and contribute to key charities which support women in compromising situations - I mean, how can you not donate? Started back in 2012, they’ve come a long way since being a little 8x10ft market stall, to a full-blown shop in the Norwich Lanes. Tey soon became known for the records they sold, which were initially a jumble of second hand vinyl purchased from ebay, to their position now where they can get a catalogue of up to 5000 new or re-issued vinyl records. Tis, and all their aspirations can only be achieved, however, if their Crowdfunder appeal is successful. Crowdfunder allows supporters to pledge an amount to a business, putting the responsibility and possibilities in our hands. So if you do decide to donate (and let’s be honest, it’s probably time you showed your face on the charity scene again) we can help Blossom Records blossom into being a central component of the Norwich music scene, which they deserve. Pledge now at http://crowdfunder.co.uk/blossom-records/
