here are a few excellent gigs happening in


August, but maybe because of the festivals, or the fact that everyone is on holiday, these excellent gigs are few and far between and I can barely fill my fingers with what I am covering this month. I have tried to focus on the newly reopened Marquee. Speaking as a promoter and as a band member, I have always had a love- hate relationship with Te Marquee, and it seems like there is potential for love there once again! Te dreaded limiter is still there but apparently it looks great and it is a viable option for promoters wanting to put on local bands. Anyway, enough of me sending the people of Norwich subliminal messages to put on more shows in a way that is not negative or moany – here is your (small) selection of excellent shows to go to in August:

Te first show of the month is one of two (TWO!) atNorwich Arts Centre. It all goes down onTursday 1st,and playing this lovely show are Solko + Dumbfoundus + Tallowah + Dr Clyde.


As I said in my positive and uplifting introduction, I am going to tell you about some of the things that Te Marquee has got to offer! Here are three of those things; Clay Pigeon + Rags Rudi + Disgraceful Squids! Tey all play a ska night what is happening at Te Marquee on the2nd.


OnTuesday 6th August there is an essential gig for y’all to go to. It’s a bit awks cos it’s a Tuesday but still, essential. Planet Hush Presents – Wooden Arms + Dove and Boweevil + Milly Hirst + Rory Hill.What a wonderful line- up, and great that it is all happening inside those lovely walls downstairs at Bedfords Crypt.


Twisted Path + Solemn Promise + Blind Mentality play atTe Marquee on the 6th,and on the 7th Out Of Step and Farewell Promotions Presents – Te Flatliners + Gnarwolves atTe Waterfront Studio.

On17thand18thAugust, prepare to have your face filled with all the senses you can handle as theNorwich Body Art Festivaldescends for its 5th year, this time at Open.Norwich’s only tattoo convention will be given a backdrop of music among the sound of 84 tattoo guns working simultaneously, of bands like Te Tinking Men, Space Eagle, Tere’s Someone in the Pond, Ducking Punches and more.

Te27th of August sounds like an excellent day to go and watch Te Nervy Betters + Two White Cranes + Te Dream is Over atTe Bicycle Shop.Tese bands are coming all the way from Bristol so let’s welcome them as we would if Alan Partridge had a movie coming out and they decided to have the premier in Norwich (in crowds).
