THE BENEFITS OF YOGA AND PERSONAL TRAINING


Adding yoga can provide personal training clients a more holistic approach to health and fitness.

t is common knowledge these days that we are all feeling the effects of stress to some degree. Multitasking has become an art form, inboxes are overflowing


and on the go is the new normal. Time- crunched clients are flying in, working their butts off to maximize fat burning and strength training, and flying back out to continue on with their never ending days.

rise and stress is considered one of the leading causes of illness. Add to this a high intensity workout and we are con- tinually revving ourselves up with lit- tle time to come down. Our clients turn to us for weight loss,


nutrition and programming advice. If we really want to help them from


a holistic point of view, than shouldn’t we also be able to provide advice to


help relieve stress? After incorporating yoga into her


personal training sessions, Jennifer Bernardo of Bendy Body Fitness in Toronto, had this to say: “Not only were my athletes sweating and feeling the great stretch and power that yoga pro- vides, but for the first time they were aware of their breathing. Usually their breath is part of an action or a reaction to a specific exercise or movement. But in yoga, breathing is your action and it guides you through your practice.” She also says that yoga has helped


her as a trainer: “As a personal train- er, you have to have a pretty big bag of tricks to make every workout different
