1999 ANNA BLESSING KINDER After a year of photographing small farms throughout the Midwest and hanging out with farmers, I finished writing my book, Locally Grown: Portraits of Artisanal Farmers from America’s Heartland, which was published last summer. My current project, Locally Brewed, has taken me to craft breweries across the Great Lakes states. Look for it this fall! When I’m not visiting farms and breweries, I’m in Chicago with my husband, Shawn Kinder, and our 3-year-old daughter, Lucia. You can contact me at

MONICA KEMPSELL SEARS
I recently graduated with my PhD from Rochester Institute of Technology in microsystems engineering, supported by an NSF Fellowship that financed my experimental work in Leuven, Belgium. My husband, Tom, and I (married 2010) were excited to move back to the Portland area
after living in Rochester for four years. I am now working at Intel as a resolution enhancement techniques engineer. I walked at the graduation ceremony in May, which included my brother, James Kempsell ’08, earning his BS and MS in computer engineering. (PHOTO next page)

MICHAEL LI I’m graduating with a PhD in applied mathematics and mathematical engineering from Princeton, and I’m jumping into the big wide world of Big Data as a data scientist at Foursquare.
