Elizabeth “Betts” Hawkins Custer ’28

1928 ELIZABETH “BETTS” HAWKINS CUSTER I celebrated my 102nd birthday on October 1 with my four children. I am still at home but require a fair amount of support. Following my graduation from Stanford in 1933, in 1934 I married Ben Scott Custer, a career naval officer. We spent time in California, Florida, Washington, DC, Princeton, New Jersey, and Ottawa, Canada, before his retirement in 1955, when we settled in Rye, New York. I continued to play tennis into my 90s. If anyone still remembers me, please get in touch.

1951 FLOY-LOUISE VON GROENEWALD SENIOR I am still volunteering for Colorado AARP Driver Safety, not only as an instructor but also as Colorado Deputy State Coordinator. My 10

30 Oregon Episcopal School

grandchildren range in age from 15 to 27 and live from New York City to Hollywood. Who would have thought, when I was graduating from SHH, that, one, I would even have grandkids, and two, they would live anywhere but in Oregon?

1953 BARBARA GREENE PHILLIPS I’m exploring how to teach without teaching through small- group coaching circles around the cornerstone of leadership development. We work with Leadership and Self-Deception from The Arbinger Institute, exploring how to unhook from the pattern of taking things personally in every aspect of work and life. Seeing how taking things personally has played out in my own life, I know something of how much it hurts:

hurting the individual, hurting relationships, and interfering with effectiveness. I am loving that winter is turning into spring and that I get to enjoy this amazing experience of being alive and sharing my life with others.
