OES Teams Make Big Waves in State Championships


boys individual title, which was the first time since 1985 that an OES boy has won the 3A state singles championship. Kevin H. ’14 and Josh Y. ’14 won the doubles title for the boys, and Hannah Huston ’13 and Cassy Lematta ’13 won the doubles title for the girls. In track, Nick Obletz ’13 won the 3A state title in the 3000-meter for the second year in a row, and he placed 2nd in the 1500-meter. During Nick’s career at OES, he qualified for state in track every year and in cross country three years. He was a five-time state champion—2009 as soccer goalkeeper; 2012 in cross-country and the 1500- and 3000-meter track events; and 2013 in the 3000-meter. He set school records in the 1500- and 3000-meter races. In other state track results, Tess O. ’15 took 5th place in the 100-meter hurdle finals, and

or the second year in a row, the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams won state titles. Te boys have won six out of the last eight years, and the girls have won five out of the last six years. Matt S. ’15 won the


OES tennis teams once again dominated the 3A state competition, and individuals also brought home honors in track and skiing.

Runner Mikaelah M. ’16 also qualified for state but fell ill and couldn’t compete. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams qualified for the state ski meet this year, and Tobias M. ’14 placed 5th overall, having placed 2nd in the slalom and 9th in the giant slalom. Boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams both made it as far as the quarterfinals this year, with the girls finishing 6th and the boys 10th among teams from all sizes of schools. In golf, Rachael H. ’16 qualified for the state tourney. Te boys’ varsity basketball team made it to the state quarterfinals this year, and for the girls, senior Erica Massaro ’13 was selected for the third state honor team in the 3A division.


In Middle School news, the 5/6 girls’ lacrosse team won the state championship for their level.


OES coaches were honored by votes of their peers. Coleen Davis was chosen as state coach of the year in 3A girls’ tennis, and boys’ tennis coach Maureen Harwood was named district coach of the year. Dave Demers was voted as state assistant coach of the year in boys’ lacrosse, and girls’ lacrosse coach Tucker Pierson was league coach of the year.

Boys’ Lacrosse Honors


Calvin C. ’15 was named to the 2nd state honor team, and Dylan G. ’14 received honorable mention.


Girls’ Lacrosse Honors


Named to the 2nd state honor team were Sophie L. ’14, Molly K. ’14, and Alex S. ’15. Alex and Molly, along with Emilie O. ’15, were selected to represent the Oregon state team at the Women’s National Lacrosse Tournament in Bethleham, Pennsylvania.
