ISLAND SHIPPING COMPLETE ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL PROJECT
Island Shipping is pleased to announce that two of the company’s wind-farm service vessels, Island Tiger and Island Panther have recently completed another successful UK offshore wind-farm charter.
Both vessels have carried out 120 days charter on behalf of Centrica at the Lincs Offshore Windfarm construction site in the North Sea. Island Shipping is delighted that both boats have completed their assignment with no days lost to mechanical failure.
DEMANDING OFFSHORE CONDITIONS Working out of Sutton Bridge, the boats have been carrying out a variety of tasks in the most demanding of offshore conditions. Apart from carrying engineers they have been tasked with the carriage of light cargo and gases for construction.
17 metre catamarans, Island Tiger and Island Panther are proven, reliable offshore windfarm vessels. Since launch in June 2010, Island Tiger has worked on the Greater Gabbard and then Sheringham Shoal completing 618 days on the latter wind-farm, mostly on 24 hour charter. Likewise, Island Panther completed 575 days continuous charter (mostly 24 hour) on Sheringham Shoal before moving to the Lincs assignment.
SPECIFICATIONS
They were one of the first to feature the now industry standard Ocean 3 fender and their sticking power to the tower in 2 metre seas is highly regarded throughout the industry. For 17 metres, the vessels punch well above their weight because their large volume hulls together with high tunnel height and excellent interior spec combines for an excellent ride and ultimately crew comfort and safety. Clients have been more than happy with the boats’ performance:
“Sheringham Shoal utilised over 18 personnel transfer vessels in various conditions and the Island Tiger and Island Panther were proven, operating in the top end of the fleet’s capability. The vessels and crews performed extremely well and proved to be reliable and professional in all that we asked of them.” Stated SCIRA Project Manager Sheringham Shoal.

A LEADER IN THE INDUSTRY
MPI Offshore has been a front runner in the offshore wind turbine installation industry for over a decade, with the acquisition of the first purpose-built wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), MPI Resolution, in 2003 and the delivery in 2011 of two more state-of-the-art vessels, MPI Adventure and MPI Discovery.
Since delivery, these vessels have been installing wind turbines, foundations and transition pieces throughout Western European continental waters.
OTHER SERVICES
Although this activity is the core business of MPI, the company also provides a range of complementary services, skills and equipment tailored to current demands in the offshore wind market.
For example, the company has responded to the growing demand for transportation of offshore personnel and the provision of safe access to offshore installations during

both construction and O&M phases. MPI Workboats’ fleet of 15-20m catamarans is based on an aluminium water-jet-powered catamaran design, incorporating innovative solutions at the request of individual clients.
GROWTH
Leslie Robertson, General Manager of MPI Workboats, has overseen the growth of MPI’s workboat fleet, from a single vessel in 2008 to the current eight high-speed catamarans, and is looking forward to the delivery of four
more vessels, currently under construction at South Boats IoW.
IMPROVEMENTS AND MODIFICATIONS Based on client feedback and developing market knowledge, MPI Workboats is continually working on improving its fleet. Modifications completed include the installation of 10Te capacity cranes, 690V 3Ph generators capable of powering turbines during maintenance, and fuel- transfer systems for replenishing all existing TP generators.
One specific modification worth mentioning is the installation of a T12 Maxccess system on MPI Dorothea, allowing safer access from the workboats to TP landing platforms in difficult sea conditions. This system increases safe access to offshore installations from wave heights of 1.1m to 1.8m. As a result, clients’ available vessel working time is increased by 40%.
