OFFSHORE ACCOMMODATION


Typically the SeaNova LQ MFP would consist of a cellar deck with multiple further decks configured above it as desired, all built to a modular design. Accommodation units will also be easily configured and arranged in conjunction with a sub-station (SeaNode) facility, or connected to an adjacent major facility by means of an air bridge.


PRACTICALITIES


As the MFP is a simple un-braced 4-legged structure, it has no complicated K-joints or nodes to inspect. The exposed area of steel in the splash zone or beneath Mean Sea Level (MSL) is less than for a similar performance conventional platform; hence corrosion and marine growth are less problematic. Cleaning marine growth is a relatively easy operation. The legs are dry and are inspected internally and because of this simpler inspection regime, ongoing maintenance costs are considerably reduced.

is essentially over. In an isolated environment, such as that on an offshore wind farm, the need for higher level life support and access to such life-saving equipment is more important than ever. To recognise if a person has collapsed due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest their breathing will need to be checked for ten seconds. If the patient is unconscious and showing no signs of breathing, CPR must be carried out immediately, followed by a shock from a defibrillator as soon as the device is made available.


RISK MANAGEMENT


The risk assessment and risk management of an offshore wind farm should take into account the living arrangements of anyone living offshore for any period of time. The access to advanced care and the emergency services needs to be considered and procedures should be put in place to minimise any risk of heart related emergencies, but also to appropriately deal with the situation should one occur. Heart screening may be appropriate to identify any underlying heart conditions before moving offshore.


LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING


Ensuring heart health among staff, providing life support training and access to a defibrillator will play a key role in severely reducing the number of cardiac deaths. AEDs are extremely simple to use and will guide the rescuer through the whole process. With some basic training anyone living offshore will be able to save a life.
