ROCKY

WEEKENDER

As you will have read and noted on the previous page, the now 40-year strong vampish musical, Te Rocky Horror Show, is coming to Norwich’s Teatre Royal this June. Te risqué

spectacle tends to make its mark on the city while it’s in town and this occasion’s no exception. Te Waterfront have got swept up in Rocky Horror fever and will be putting on a themed weekend for your post- show party delectation. Tey’re staging a Rocky-themed weekend on the 7th and 8th June; Friday 7th sees everyone’s favourite glam-rock and hair metal tribute act, Pout At Te Devil perform before giving way into the venue’s famous 80s Night; then on Saturday, Te Waterfront presents their own pillars of the week, Meltdown + Britpoppin' with a Rocky twist. For those with one of the sold-out golden tickets to the Teatre Royal show, Te Waterfront are kindly offering all ticket holders free entry to the clubs on both nights. For details on this and all the Waterfront goings on, check out their Facebook page, or go to www.waterfrontnorwich.com.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE (ENTER)PRISE

Enterprise Norfolk is an initiative set up to assist and support business start-ups. It sounds all a bit of an Alan Sugar-fest, but it’s the real deal and it’s helping local people like Breckland resident, Kevin Chilvers, based in Watton, who was

able to take advantage of support provided through the by launching Jukebox Roulette.

YOUR BODY WILL THANK YOU

We may be spectacularly slack at taking care of what we ingest on a daily basis, putting small glasses of putrid liquid inside of other larger glasses of putrid liquid all in the name of LIVER- BOMBING or whatever, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give a toss about any aspect of what we put inside our precious bodies. (Ladies, this isn’t a lecture on keeping your legs shut, although apply it here too if

you think it’ll do you some good). What we’re actually talking about is the various piercings that many, many of us have, and probably don’t take much care of after the fact. Factotum Body Modification Studio on St John Maddermarket are out to change that though, one shiny silver ball at a time. Tey’ve invested in supreme quality body jewellery made of implant grade materials from Industrial Strength. With internal threading on the jewellery posts, and a partnership with the inimitable Swarovski gems for their shinier pieces, they’ve created a range based on extensive research and the strong awareness that “Not all body jewelry is created equal!” In their words, “Seek out the best jewelry for your piercing. Your body will thank you.” Go and see the team at Factotum and start making your body feel loved again.

Kevin explained his journey; “I have always wanted to do work that involves my passion for music and an opportunity came up to get a redundancy package from my job in retail management so I took it to fund the business. I wanted to get some help in setting up the business properly and found NWES who were able to support me through the Enterprise Norfolk. I have been able to get free advice and training and all of this help has been invaluable in allowing me to comfortably start my business. I have learnt so much and put it all into practice and they even gave me the software to run my own books and write my business plan. I feel I am now very knowledgeable on how to run my business and the many pitfalls and benefits of being self-employed. I even understand and know what I need to do legally in paying my taxes.” With Jukebox Roulette, Kevin offers a mix of genres and styles performing in music venues and schools entertaining and educating the community throughout East Anglia. Te business started in April and Kevin highlighted the key to his passion “I have played either solo or in band since the age of 16 and as part of the local rock band Te Chill. We got a song I’d written called ‘PUSH’ to number 10 in the download chart having studied Performing Arts at college. I employ no staff but I do have a regular pool of other artists I sometimes collaborate with.”

So far the lows for Kevin have been having to scrimp and save with whilst setting up, the nagging self- doubt that makes you wonder if you have made the right choice opening your own business and whether you can do it or not. A major high has been Kevin seeing his business start from nothing and grow in equipment, paperwork, booking, contacts and finally money. Te advice he would give other people thinking of starting a business is get loads of advice, especially from NWES and Enterprise Norfolk - you can never stop learning.
