provided the electric drives, gears and propellers as part of its Stascho No-Loss Drive system. The company pointed out that the IPA green ship would also benefit from the highly redundant drive technology, which reduces the risk of propulsion loss to an absolute minimum, it claimed. It explained that the AC drives are split into three segregated power units, so that only a part of the propulsion power will be lost in the case of failures. The dual-fuel generator set was

provided by Wärtsilä, while Samsung was responsible for the main electric switchboards, system engineering and LNG tank systems. PST

• Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has announced the name of its second diesel electric hybrid newbuilding, chosen after public vote. The ropax ferry, which is being built at Ferguson Shipbuilders Ltd in Port Glasgow, is due to be launched in May and will be called Lochinvar. • The Canadian Ferry Operators Association (CFOA) has joined Green Marine, a joint Canada-US initiative aimed at improving the environmental performance of marine companies. Green Marine executive director David Bolduc said that CFOA’s membership sent a “clear signal that ferry operators are willing to take part in the collective effort to reduce the industry’s environmental footprint and it will also highlight the environmental efforts they are already deploying.” Jamie Marshall, CFOA’s chair, added: “we have a responsibility to our generation and future generations to ensure we have clean waterways.”
