Shaft alignment tool is “a revolution in usability”

processing techniques is said to offer users fast and simple operation. The Fixturlaser NXA alignment

A

system consists of a display unit, a 16.7cm-wide touch screen, a ‘video game realistic’ graphic user interface and a new set of sensors. By introducing a gyro-powered OmniView function, the screen will always show the machine to be aligned from the same viewing angle as where the operator is positioned. In other words, says Sweden-based Fixturlaser, the system knows where it is in relation to the machine. Chief executive of ELOS

Fixturlaser Hans Svensson describes the NXA as a “revolution

in usability”. The new sensors use a second-

generation CCD technology with increased capabilities and reliability. Also, the sensors have built-in gyroscopes to provide a quick and reliable measurement of vertically-mounted machines. They have the smallest form factor on

the market, with built-in batteries and Bluetooth communication, which provide for easy access on machines in limited space. Svensson says: “If we can provide the ultimate shaft alignment system when it comes to usability, we will help thousands of companies worldwide to become

Analyser unlocks the true value of raw materials

Pulp and paper mills will be able to unlock the true value of their raw material for optimum end- product quality by using a new Fibre Image Analyzer from Metso. The analyser offers enhanced

accuracy, reliability and speed of fibre measurement and, it is said, a variety of possibilities for improved competitiveness thanks to better control of raw material treatment and quality. “The Metso FS5 incorporates the

latest technology development in fibre imaging and image processing. The improved optical measurement capability allows pulp and paper makers to see more of the fibres, while the advances in the image processing creates the possibility to extract

new features,” says Jukka Nokelainen, business manager at Metso Automation. Product manager Tuomo Kälkäjä

added: “The Metso FS5 is the result of more than 30 years of experience with automated fibre property measurements and fully meets the requirements of the ISO 16065-2 standard. It is suitable for a broad variety of pulp types and fibres and is designed for routine pulp and paper mill laboratory testing as well as laboratory research use.” The FS5 is said to be easy to use

with no training, and processes up to 100 samples per eight-hour shift, enhanced by automatic consistency adjustment, allowing samples to be inserted without any special preparation, effectively eliminating operator error. More information from Tuomo

more efficient, but also reduce waste of both components and energy. We believe strongly that if all rotating equipment in the world were aligned within its specifications, we would have a much healthier environment. An alignment system that is as easy to use as the Fixturlaser NXA will pave way for this.” More information from ELOS
