stuff of centuries past. the fiscal crisis was a shock because, as the world’s finan- cial center, the american people never expected to be the target of a small group of totally amoral, international financiers living among us and sharing our citizen- ship.
if i had to sum up what i have learned in two words, it would be the importance of charac- ter and community. as to character, it does- n’t matter how magnetic, charming, gifted, talented, capable, commanding or eloquent someone may be: if they don't have charac- ter and integrity, they will eventually end up in a “shipwreck.” and as to community, i have learned that missions work must be community centered and focused. We must get beyond the old missionary vision of only saving an individual soul here and there, and instead, expand our vision to the saving of entire communities. WMe is vigorously working around this concept in india, sri lanka, thailand, Kenya and the Philippines.
