David Cole, Sales Director at Perrin & Rowe, believes that the hot water tap is part of a natural evolution in consumer expectations for the kitchen: “Busy lifestyles mean homeowners would rather have a pool of high quality, luxurious products to choose from. Retailers and thus manufacturers have been forced to re- evaluate their product offering as a result to ensure they have a premium portfolio that can compete at the very highest level.

He adds that Perrin & Rowe has been focusing on the idea of ‘added value’ in order to produce a premium quality product. “The manufacture, design and engineering process matters to the consumer in a way that it hasn’t before, so companies with greater design credentials are faring much better in the marketplace.”

“Design and function therefore plays an important role and by ensuring we can offer a portfolio of products that offer more than one purpose − for example accommodating both hot and cold water − is key to remaining competitive. Filtration has also become a popular utility with consumers enjoying the idea of having purified water in their kitchens literally on tap.”

Boiling water tap manufacturer Quooker has witnessed a big growth in awareness of the benefits its products can bring to a kitchen. “The boiling water tap has been perceived as something of a luxury, although once people have one installed, they tell us that it’s a necessity and something they would never be without,” says Quooker UK Managing Director Stephen Johnson. “The Quooker Fusion, as a single product combining, hot, cold and boiling water, saves purchasing a separate mixer tap and dedicated boiling water tap, so it makes opting for instantaneous boiling water a more affordable choice.

“With the decision to provide boiling, hot and cold water from a single tap comes a greater responsibility on safety, so we’ve also added a host of additional features to make this one of the safest appliances in your kitchen. You can’t accidentally turn on the boiling water flow; you have to actively select the right setting in order to obtain boiling water, avoiding the possibility of accidental scalding.”

Ashley Munden, European Managing Director for InSinkErator, also sees consumer awareness as a big factor in driving the development of this product i
