Broadening Bathroom Knowledge

Bathroom Planning and Design workshops delivered by the BMA's Bathroom Academy to department store chain John Lewis will be expanded following the success of the initial sessions.

The two-day workshops presented by the Bathroom Academy, together with its partners and sponsors 20-20 Technologies, have been well-received and are now set to be rolled out to more staff within the group over the coming months.

The workshops cover both the theory and practice of bathroom planning and design and are designed to cater for all levels of experience. Subjects as diverse as domestic plumbing systems, the building and planning regulations, current trends and family needs are covered during the workshop.

The workshop, which is enhanced with tasks designed to stretch the delegates’ imaginations, is further enriched with hands-on bathroom planning exercises using the latest bespoke 20-20 Fusion software. Delegates create new bathroom plans from real-life examples using bathroom products from the new John Lewis catalogues.

WARNING OVER CREDIT CARD SCAM

The Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association, (KBSA) has issued a warning to all retailers to beware of an Internet scam that involves a bogus customer ordering appliances with stolen credit cards.

Several KBSA members have been caught up in the scam that appears to be running throughout the UK. Ruth Ward, KBSA Sales and Marketing Director, said: “We first heard of this last year and reported it to trading standards. We thought it was an isolated incident but we have now had numerous reports of the same scam.

“We have issued a warning to all of our members to beware of orders coming in via the Internet or email for specific goods. The goods requested are usually stainless steel and high specification.

“All communication is done by email – in most cases the customer claims to be deaf, hence no phone conversations or confirmations. The goods are collected by courier, normally within a couple of hours. As

far as we are aware the couriers are not involved and are also being paid via the stolen credit cards.”

The KBSA advises that all retailers ensure that they meet, in full, their credit card provider's terms and conditions which should enable them to reclaim any losses between £100 and £30,000. They should also report any approaches that look like they may be part of this scam to their local Trading Standards office and the police.
