Steve Rutter, Marketing Manager at Franke UK, says: “Although multi- functional taps command a premium, it’s a price that consumers are willing to pay for the speed and convenience that they offer in today’s busy lifestyles. Having instant boiling water − literally on tap − for the many daily tasks of making a cup of tea or coffee, boiling pasta, or blanching veg, offers practical and time-saving benefits which enhance the user’s pleasure in the kitchen and that is key these days.”

He adds that consumers love gadgets in their kitchen, especially when they are stylish and practical. They are aspirational and a status symbol, showing an appreciation of the latest technology and design trends. “Where once it was a built- in coffee machine or a KitchenAid mixer, now it’s the turn of the boiling water tap to make that statement. With a hot water boiling tap, a specifier can easily up-spec a kitchen with a desirable and practical gadget, that marks it out as being in tune with the very latest trends.”

While boiling water technology is not new, Rutter says that Franke’s Minerva 3-in-1 tap broke new ground when it was launched in 2011 by offering hot, cold and instant boiling water in a single combined tap as opposed to other brands which have only focused, albeit successfully, on just delivering boiling water with a tap that sits in addition to the main tap style.

Multi-functional taps are more in the consumer’s mind than they have ever been. Aside from its practical benefits, a hot water boiling tap is a piece of theatre in the kitchen adding to the social vibe that’s very important to today’s consumer.

Rutter adds: “From a standing start, our sales line has grown very strongly in just 18 months and we are delighted with the positive feedback from retailers and consumers with more 5,000 likes on our Facebook page. We have just launched three new tap styles called Irena, Helix and Mondial to the Minerva range, making four overall, because we believe that this segment of the market is set to grow very strongly and we want to make sure our retailers are well placed to capitalise on the potential out there. Helix and Mondial will be in solid stainless steel as we believe there is consumer demand for an even higher specification of tap build and finish at the top end.”
