Pen a Story to be in PEN HEAVEN!
Words for Life and
Penheaven.co.uk have partnered to launch an exciting writing competition for children aged 13 or under.
The “Pen a Story” writing competition is run by the National Literacy Trust’s Words for Life campaign which supports parents with the tools, resources and confidence to give their child the best possible foundation in speech, writing and reading skills.
Words for Life has £500 worth of fantastic pens and prizes up for grabs for any child that enters the “Pen a Story” competition:
• The winner will win a fantastic Lamy Studio fountain pen, engraved with their name, plus a large Da Vinci journal
• 10 runners up will win a selection of 4 online pens
• The winner will also have their story published on
www.wordsforlife.org.uk, on Pen Heaven’s blog and will be featured in First News newspaper
To enter the competition, all children have to do is finish off, in 500 words or less, the story started on the website by children’s author, Tony Palmer. It’s as simple as that! Tom Palmer has also written some inspiring tips for children on writing a short story at
www.wordsforlife.org.uk/penastory along with advice for parents. Tom says:
“I’ve judged writing competitions lots of times and I’ve learned that the best stories are interesting and personal. Be yourself. Write what you want. Even if you think it sounds weird, write it.”
The “Pen a Story” competition closing date is 5th May 2013. For full details of how to enter the competition, terms and conditions please visit:

CSI Kids!
This brilliant venture is something we wish had been around when we were kids – although it would have been more Dock Green than Miami themed!
The Detective Project was founded in 2010 by mum of
two, an experienced
Jenny Williams, former
detective in the Metropolitan Police and Avon & Somerset Constabulary.
Jenny has used her skills and experience to offer something new and exciting for kids parties. The Detective Project offers a number of themes including CSI Kids parties that are aimed at groups of girls and boys aged 7 upwards. The Detective Project agents challenge your children to investigate a crime scene in your own home or party venue. They work their way through a series of clues using the same forensic techniques as real detectives to solve the crime, hopefully in time for tea and cake! Prices start from £165 for a group of up 15 children and include white investigators suits (to keep!), party bags and invitations to download. Check out
www.csikids.co.uk for more info. But if you decide to snaffle that last chocolate hobnob make sure you don’t leave any evidence!
