Older children will enjoy boating on the many differ- ing lakes, as well as biking in Coniston. While if you have younger children there are also a number of walking routes which are perfect for little legs and buggies.

Views over the Lake District Bristol

One of Bristol’s best child friendly attractions is Brunels SS Great Britain. Throughout the year the Trust offers fun activities such as craft workshops, historical re-enactors and ship trails as well as the chance to meet Mr Brunel himself! Bristol Packet Boat Rides is another great option for children – choose from a short floating harbour tour to a day trip to Bath. The Clifton Observatory is also a brilliant place to go for stunning views of the bridge, the city and the river Avon.

Brighton

Brighton is a vibrant and bustling place to visit and very family friendly. Its main attraction is of course its beach. Free to visit, the front also includes many playgrounds for children to enjoy for example, Peter Pan’s on Madeira Drive or Hove Lagoon in Hove. Alternatively, take the kids rock pooling in Rottingdean and Ovingdean.

Lake District

One of the country’s most beautiful natural attrac- tions. If you head up to Windermere be sure to call in at Brockhole, The Lake District Visitor Centre – the perfect day out for children and adults alike.

Tenby The Pembrokeshire coast is famous for its amazing Great blue Flag beaches – Broadhaven and Bara- fundle beach in particular. Away from the beach, Folly Farm is perfect for children of all ages, while Oakwood Theme Park also offers plenty of family fun. Fun activities from horse riding to kayaking are available in the region, plus a trip to Pembroke Castle is another worthwhile site.

Blackpool

I have to own up to bias here as this is my place of birth! One of Britain’s oldest tourist destinations, Blackpool has been a family favourite since the 18th Century and the resort still attracts the crowds each summer. Blackpool Pleasure Beach hosts over 125 rides and attractions in- cluding the Pepsi Max Big One roller coaster and for 2013 the new Wallace & Gromit Thrill-O-Matic attraction Fun is also to be had at the Sandcastle Water- park, the Sealife Aquarium and Madame Tussauds Waxworks, not forgetting the Blackpool Tower with its recently opened viewing platform. Children will also love a visit to the Comedy Carpet to discover classic, favourite jokes painted on the ground.
