and visitors alike can take in Ottawa’s famous Winterlude, and the Canal is the centre for much of the festival. Winterlude has been a staple in Ottawa for over 30 years. There are learn- to-skate clinics, a hockey tournament and winter triathlon and the world’s largest snow playground known as the Snowflake Kingdom. Take a stroll through Confederation Park in downtown Ottawa and take in the ice sculptures. World class cuisine can be enjoyed at the Taste of Winterlude. Some of the best local restaurants are showcased and offer wine and food pairings, demonstrations and other culinary events. Being the nation’s capital city, you cannot go to Ottawa without visiting
Parliament Hill. Guided tours offer visitors a look into the seat of Canada’s federal government including the Senate and the House of Commons (when not in session). Wander to the top of the Peace Tower for a 360 degree view of the Capital. Are you travelling with children? Challenge them to see how many of the 370 gargoyles, grotesques and friezes they can find on the Peace Tower. The Hill is one of over 60 sites across the city aglow with thousands of Christmas lights as part of Christmas Lights Across Canada, an event that continues through to early January.

As you tour through the city, you will see there are several museums and galleries that may peak your interest. Be sure to stop in to see the Canadian War Museum, which has six galleries featuring various exhibits suitable for any member of the family. There are many significant artifacts to see including the
headstone of Canada’s Unknown Soldier, the only item in the museum’s Memorial Hall. Some of Canada’s best known artists have their work on display for the public to enjoy. The most visited museum in Ottawa is the Canadian Museum of Civilization, which also houses the Canadian Children’s Museum. Walk through 1000 years of Canadian history in Canada Hall or stand before the world’s largest indoor collection of totem poles and First Peoples Hall, featuring the many
