THE U.S. PACIFIC NORTHWEST
When someone mentions Seattle, the first thing that comes to mind is the Space Needle. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. The Space Needle is open 365 days a year; however, they may close for special events, holidays, and facility upgrades. It has a unique way for you to explore Seattle. SkyQ is made up of five kiosks that offer a hands-on way to sightsee Seattle at a very high level. For more info check out
spaceneedle.com.
Up inside the Space Needle is the Sky City Restaurant. They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday, lunch Monday to Friday and dinner seven days a week. It’s a great way to relax and enjoy what you’ve seen below during your stay in the city. Once you are back on the ground there is a ton of stuff to do in the area around the Space Needle, including the Science Museum, the tram, and Rock and Roll Museum.
Another high point in any visit to Seattle is the Great Wheel. It is the largest observation wheel on the west coast and stands 175 feet tall. It has 42 fully- enclosed gondolas; each seats up to eight people.
The Wheel was manufactured in various parts of Europe and the United States, and assembled right at the end of the pier, where it extends nearly 40 feet beyond the pier and over Elliott Bay. It is open year round and the gondolas are fully-enclosed. There is even a covered waiting area. More info is available at

A visit to Seattle is not complete without a tour of Pike Place Market, which is also home to the original Starbucks. The market is spread out over nine acres and has more than a century of operation. One vender in the market who has people from all over the world to see is the Pike Place Fish Market. Watch their world famous crews of fishmongers throw fish and

have fun with customers. Buy some of the best seafood available and have it shipped home. Pike Place Market is considered the soul of Seattle and has seen immigration, internment, renovation, and urban renewal. There are some famous people laid to rest in this area. Martial-arts film star Bruce Lee is buried here as well as his son, Brandon Lee. The cemetery, at 1554 15 Ave. E., is open 9 am-6 pm daily. Rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix was buried in 1970 at Renton’s Greenwood Cemetery, at 350 Monroe Ave. N.E. The legend’s remains now reside in a lavish new memorial in the southwestern corner of the cemetery, complete with a 9m (30 foot) high granite dome supported by three pearl-gray columns trimmed in rainbow marble.

You can find the centre of the universe in the Pacific Northwest. Apparently, it’s in Fremont, a creative and trendy Seattle

neighbourhood. This self-proclaimed centre of the universe has year-round entertainment, statues of communist leaders and trolls under bridges. The Fremont troll is made of rebar steel, wire, and two tons of ferroconcrete. We heard there are several trolls in the area who love to dance and basically have a great time. They do not eat people; however, they have been known to take entire cars apart, so park far away from the troll when you visit.
