What people say about us I am very pleased to be able to provide a testimonial for Watford

Mencap, an organisation I have come to know very well through my role as Mayor of Watford.

The organisation is highly respected locally, having been meeting the needs of the local community for 60

years now. Over that time, the organisation has continued to evolve, ensuring it is as relevant now in today’s changing economic climate as it was 60 years ago. They work in the heart of the local community, and have continuously raised their game and built up their profile.

Without a doubt, Watford Mencap is one of the most successful voluntary organisations in the area. I admire its aspirations and its relentless commitment to supporting those in need.

Dorothy Thornhill MBE, Elected Mayor of Watford

Our son Richard has oral dyspraxia, which affects his speech, and also has moderate learning difficulties.

In July 2008 he moved into Watford Mencap’s house Berrywood. He started to go to a social club run by Watford

Mencap and he does a lot of leisure activities like playing golf. There was good communication between the staff and us.

Richard would not be where he is now without the help and support of Watford Mencap. It was through Watford Mencap that Richard has a job. In 2011 he moved into a flat in Bushey. He passed his driving test and has his own car which he drives around. We like to support Watford Mencap because of all the good work they do with people with special needs.
