Entrepreneur Country speaks to Brynne Herbert, CEO By Kelly Dolan

f you’re an entrepreneur or professional who travels frequently for work purposes, you may have pondered on the global dilemma that is the difficulty in relocating to international cities. What if there was one place you could go where everything was handled for you, from organising your visa, to moving luggage from one place to another?

This month, I met with Brynne Herbert, CEO of MOVE Guides, who spotted the problem and found a solution. Originally from the US, Herbert studied Chinese at Yale and soon gained a keen interest in opportunities abroad. Upon graduating, Brynne moved to Hong Kong to work for Lehman Brothers, as well as completing assignments across India, Singapore and Dubai.

“I realised there were more people moving abroad and that every single one of them encountered the same hassle”

“During that time I was given great exposure to a very diverse network of expatriates” says Brynne. “I realised there were more people moving abroad and that every single one of them encountered the same hassle no matter what city they were moving to. It was really difficult to get reliable information about your new city, find and select companies to do services like ship your stuff or find a flat, and get set up in a new home.

“I then moved to London to do my MBA at London Business School and relocating to the UK was an utter nightmare! I was sitting in a Foxton Sub-let with the floor peeling off, no hot water or internet as well as no bank account or phone because I didn’t have a permanent address. I had this epiphany in the living room and I said to my husband ‘Why

is it so difficult to move to international cities and so easy to travel anywhere in the world?’ His answer was ‘Oh well, you should change it’ and suddenly I had this moment of reckoning for MOVE Guides.”

The concept was in place and Brynne tells me she soon got to work on the business model whilst continuing her MBA. “I was really lucky to be at the London Business School because it is a great place to foster ideas and to do market research because they have an international student body which made it great for brainstorming ideas for a global business.
