Helping unlock the potential of Britain’s fast-growth SMEs

We run a number of peer-to-peer events around the UK, ranging from hands-on workshops with 10-15 SMEs to high-profi le conferences for 150-200 businesses. These events are open

to all fast-growth SMEs, and are aimed at helping businesses identify the key to unlocking potential growth. They provide an opportunity for networking within the fast-growth SME community.

Trading internationally can be daunting, however the rewards can be transformational to business success and long-term sustainable growth. We offer a programme to help companies overcome

the challenges often associated with exporting. It includes subsidised trade missions, educational roadshows and support in accessing information on exporting to help them break into new overseas markets.

The opportunity to see and hear fi rst-hand how

successful companies achieved success is invaluable to rapidly growing SMEs. Masterclasses enable Breakthrough SMEs

to visit market-leading companies, and learn from resident entrepreneurs and senior managers who have experience of doing business further along the growth curve.

Growing SMEs often struggle to obtain growth capital. Venture capital and private equity funds rarely invest under £10 million, while business angel funding is diffi cult for amounts

above £1 million. The Breakthrough programme is making available £200 million in the form of growth capital loans for those fast-growth SMEs that occupy this funding gap. These loans are especially structured to minimise the impact on cashfl ow.

Whether rapidly growing or

otherwise, all SMEs exist within a wider community. These businesses benefi t their communities by creating jobs, training staff and

generating wealth for the supply chain and the local economy. Working with Business In The Community, Young Enterprise and other partners, we encourage fast-growth SMEs to adopt practices that enable responsibility while maintaining commercial success.

Attracting, retaining and managing the right talent is a permanent challenge for fast-growth SMEs, who will always need skilled, innovative people. Breakthrough matches

top-fl ight graduates with SMEs that can benefi t from their skills. We also help fi nd coaches or mentors for both management and workforce, enabling the UK’s fastest-growing SMEs to tap into fresh thinking and new ideas.
