concepts deployed by organisations who want to create a learning environment in which their employees can develop winning attitudes and positive behaviours, innovative and creative thinking and a level of energy, motivation and commitment which is unparalleled in the industry.

Which is the most effective Training Style?

Our employees need to learn and develop in a style which is educational and informative, whilst still satisfying their personal learning style to gain best retention and application of the topic into their workplace.

It was Confucius who said; ‘I hear - I forget. I see - I remember. I do - I understand.’ This is still true today, which is why experiential learning concepts are still proven to be the most effective training style, utilising ‘learning through doing’ experiential workshops. This learning style is fast becoming a global phenomena and is already being utilised by BP, Exxon, NHS, RAF (all 52 Stations in the UK), Local Authorities, HMP, Vodafone, TUC, B&Q, Jaguar, Land Rover, Honda and Ordnance Survey.

The chart (Figure 1) shows the advantage of experiential learning through doing.

An RAF Master Aircrewman, Weapons Systems Operator Leader says: ‘in my 28 years of experience in Leadership Development in the RAF I have seen many techniques and teaching styles come and go – but I have not seen anything so powerful and effective as the experiential learning concepts from Mobile Team Challenge. All 52 RAF Stations utilise this technique to outstanding

effect, as well as 200 local authorities, NHS and many private and public sector organisations.’

Emotional Intelligence (E.Q.) is, in some instances now more important that I.Q. and experiential learning is an excellent accelerated learning method for delegates of all levels.

People do not deliberately perform badly

With classroom training there is a small increase in teamwork and efficiency, but this soon evaporates. With Experiential Learning there is a 77% boost in teamwork/ organisational development index that continues to have residual effects up to one year later - without follow up.

Some benefits commercially are greater efficiency, better staff retention, improved leadership and management skills and thus an increase in profit.

In schools and colleges, increased self- esteem, confidence, self awareness, motivation and respect are also gained along with increased decision making, more effective problem solving and greater team working skills.

Some of the areas that can be influenced and developed during workshops are:

• Personal Skills: accountability, flexibility, goal setting and trust.

• Leadership skills: communications, motivation, delegation and influencing people.

• Teamwork: team development, co-operation, planning and group dynamics.

You can select any of over 200 different activities at varying difficulty levels to achieve the training objective that your company desires. A Goal Reference Matrix ensures that the process of event and programme design, planning and preparation accurately corresponds to your training needs.

The facilitator led workshops are designed to enable participants to learn through ‘doing’. The outcome for any workshop will be to provide participants with the confidence, ability and desire to implement their new skills, thinking and/or strategies as soon as they return to the workplace. In this way, ‘change’ will become behavioural and lasting, and learning will be transferred to the work environment.
