• Blake Lapthorn has announced the appointment of Lee Grunnell as its new director of marketing and business development. Grunnell has over 10 years of domestic and international business development experience. He joins Blake Lapthorn from DAC Beachcroft LLP where he was director of business development; previously he
worked in the global tax group at Ernst & Young. His experience covers all elements of marketing and business development, both strategically and operationally. In particular he has expertise in client development, establishing routes to market and brand positioning. He is also skilled in strategic business planning, sales training and merger implementation. Grunnell said: "I’m delighted to be joining Blake Lapthorn. The firm is responding positively to the changing legal landscape and evolving needs of its clients. • HMT Corporate Finance has appointed Ian Barton as lead advisory partner. For almost a decade prior to joining HMT, Barton built and led Deloitte’s South East corporate finance advisory business as a partner and led several of the region's most prestigious transactions, winning the Thames Valley Business Magazine Deal of the Year Award in both 2007 and 2011.
• Leading Thames Valley law firm, Pitmans LLP, have strengthened its corporate team by welcoming Roger Gregory, partner, formerly of Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Gregory specialises in the areas of venture capital, private equity and M&A and has also worked on corporate aspects of insolvency, restructuring and distressed situations and transactions. He acts on behalf of institutional investors and management teams in MBOs, MBIs, development capital and venture capital work. He has a passion for and particular interest in clean technology. • Dame Christine Beasley DBE has been appointed as chair of Buckinghamshire New University’s governing body. She will lead the non-executive university council which determines the strategic development of the university, and will act as the primary link between the council and the university’s senior team. Beasley has held a range of senior posts and has broad experience of policy development, leadership and general management.
