UNVEILED! Producers across the South West of England are celebrating this month as the results of the Great Taste Awards were announced. The awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, have a strong reputation built on judging standards widely regarded as the most rigorous in the UK, with every entry blind tasted by teams of experts. Judges this year included Masterchef winner and restaurateur Mat Follas, restaurant critic and Masterchef judge Charles Campion and food writers Lucas Hollweg and Xanthe Clay. Almost 9000 products were entered for this years’ awards, with only the very best going forward to be nominated for Great Taste Awards with decorations of one, two or three gold stars. There were some notable winners, with The Bay Tree Food Company, Everchreech, receiving eleven awards across a number of categories including a coveted three star Gold award for their Passion Fruit Curd. Devon butchers Pipers Farm were awarded four two star awards, while Purbeck Ice Cream, Dorset, scooped four of the much sought after gold awards. Two gold stars were awarded to both their Fig and Honey ice cream and Quince Sorbet, while one star Gold awards were awarded for their New Improved Serious Chocolate and Stem Ginger flavoured ice creams.

The Awards programme finishes at the ‘Golden Fork’ Awards in London this September when the Great Taste Supreme Champion is announced. Look out for the announcement of the winner next month, with fingers crossed for some of our West Country hopefuls! For more information on the Great Taste Awards visit www.greattasteawards.co.uk
