THE KIDS INVOLVED!
GET STRAWBERRY LEATHER FRUIT SNACK
The secret of this simple recipe is slow cooking at a very low temperature.
300g strawberries 50g sugar
Oven drying
Removing moisture by drying is a great way to preserve fruits and vegetables long beyond their season. Again a very simple method, one simply needs to clean and slice the desired item to preserve, place on a tray and leave in an oven on a low heat (around 50o
C) for a few hours,
dependent on your preference for crunchiness!
Dried foods, especially fruits, are an excellent source of energy and make healthy snacks, perfect for those school lunchboxes!
1 Preheat your oven to 50o
C, or its lowest temperature.
2 Put the strawberries in a bowl and crush or blend them until they’re fairly smooth, but with a bit of texture remaining. Add the sugar to the bowl and stir well.
3 Spread the fruit mixture on to a piece of baking paper or a non-stick baking tray and place in an oven for 6-8 hours.
4 Leave to cool on the baking paper or tray, then cut into long, thin strips and peel each strip off individually. Roll them up and store in an airtight container for up to three months.
