Nick Ralph, Chairman of Dorset Farmers’ Market says “It’s a shopping experience that offers quality. There’s a misconception among many that Farmers’ Markets are expensive but now I think if you were to do a comparable shopping basket it would all be fairly close”. “We run nine markets in Dorset with almost eighty producer members, each market offers different producers so you’ll find something different at each market. They also regularly exhibit at other food festivals and county shows throughout the year.”
They’ve even seen interest from the queen on her visit to Sherborne this year when she visited local food producer’s stands. Dorset Farmers’ Market are big on education and regularly take producers into schools to talk about what they do and cook with the food sold at the event. They’ve even been known to take cows to school. “We took two cows into a school, milked them and from the milk we made butter and yoghurt with the students so they could see where it comes from, it was great”.
