AUGUST 2012 THE RIDER /23 Spencerville Stampede Spencerville Stampede

A “Gold Medal” Performance in Eastern Ontario July 28 and 29, 2012 Spencerville Fairgrounds By Liz Shaughnessey.

Committed to “driving the bar higher’ with the inaugural New Holland Pro-Rodeo series, rodeo producer Shawn Orr did that but much more for the first ever Spencerville Stam- pede which played to thousands of cheering spectators on the July 28th/29th weekend. Event organizers, John and Cora Beking, couldn’t be happier with the results and the feedback from the visitors, sponsors and the cowboys, about this major rodeo event staged in eastern Ontario.

“It’s a great way for our dealers across Ontario to engage with their communities and showcase the product at work,” referring to the New Holland ‘sea of blue” equipment which advance preps the facilities and maintains the competition areas for each performance. The fourth and final stop for the inaugural New Holland Pro- Rodeo Series is the Powasson Rodeo held on the September 1st and 2nd Labour weekend during the Powasson Fall Fair, just outside of North Bay.

“Attracting the top rodeo riders is key”, says Orr the president of A Bar K Rodeo Productions. ‘Spectators deserve first class competition and edge of your seat entertainment”. “This level of rodeo would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and incredible commitment of the Beking family”, referring to the unbelievable timeline of less than 2 months for the Bekings to gather sponsors, entertainment and vendors for this first ever event.

Held at the renowned Spencerville Fairgrounds outside of Ottawa, the two day rodeo attracted top cowboys from across Ontario, Quebec and the northeastern U.S.A., who delivered high performance rodeo competition for more than 5000 cheering fans.

The Quebec contingent, respected as leading rodeo com- petitors anywhere in North America, dominated the field of 200 plus cowboys in the ‘extreme’ competitions of bareback bronc, saddle bronc and bull riding.

Outside the rodeo “pen”, visitors enjoyed other amuse- ments and attractions including an antique car and tractor show, a petting zoo and vendor fair, a live sold-out concert with country music artist D W James plus the incomparable Woodlands barbeque chicken dinner.

Only two weeks earlier, Holstein, the “Grand Dame” of rodeos in eastern Canada, attracted 25,000 spectators to the three day mega-rodeo. “Rodeo provides a great opportunity to take the New Holland brand name to the public which includes ‘today’s’ farmer”, says Brian Osterndorff, owner of three Robert’s Farm Equipment New Holland dealerships and spokesperson for the Ontario New Holland Dealer Associa- tion.
