ing participants. Seasoned leaders run through their routines with ease, but creating a consistently engaging envi- ronment is the true key to long term success. To make your program outright ad-

dictive, be sure to cover off these seven points:
1. Spark Interest with Engaging Materials Short captivating tidbits of informa-
tion with colourful visuals can be a powerful driver that let people review your materials at their leisure. Make them friendly, and provide contact in- formation so they can ask questions. This alone can provide valuable in- sight into what your audience wants to gain by joining your program.
2. Create Dialogue with Social Media Follow up on your printed materials
with an online presence. For example, Facebook’s new company pages are an ideal way to interact with and share information with participants. Make the most of these types of free tools by using their built-in surveys and other services.
3. Educate Between Sessions Use permission-based email lists
or social media channels to reach out and stay in touch–but be sure the con- tent is interesting and valuable. For ex- ample, highlight the top three lessons learned at each session, and revisit these at the next session to create con- tinuity. People will love it, and you’ll get credit each and every time.
4. Communicate Before Each Class One common participant criticism is that they have no idea how a class will

unfold. Why not share this informa- tion before class? This lets people pace themselves and helps them enjoy the class without the stress of anticipating each upcoming component.
5. Motivate, Encourage and Reward During each session, talk to your
participants and keep an eye on peo- ple who are struggling. Invite them to take a minute’s break while you give tips on staying hydrated, safety or ex- ercise intensity.
6. Keep it Fun Although it may sound selfish, if you’re having fun your participants
likely are too. If you keep sessions light and engaging, you’ll develop a reputa- tion as a competent and passionate fit- ness leader whose sessions are not to be missed.
7. Ask for Testimonials Testimonials are an invaluable re-
cruiting tool and provide you with a roadmap for improvement. FBC
