Gentry Pickett, Lafayette, LA, graduated


from William Woods University in Fulton, MO, on May 5. She plans to attend graduate school this fall, studying forensic science. She’s eager to go back to showing Wranglers Cool Snip and Red Hot N Luvin It, plus a new 3-year-old, My Final Notion.


Texas A&M University’s national cham-


pion equestrian team ended one of its most suc- cessful seasons on May 5, with the annual team banquet at the Zone Club at Kyle Field. Most valuable player honors were given in each of the four disciplines, including Carey Nowacek (horsemanship), Lindsey Bernbaum (reining), Haley Buchmiller (eq-on-the-flat), and Maggie Earle (eq-over-fences). Rookie of the Year recog- nition went to Buchmiller and Leah Chenelle. Courtney Dawe was recognized with the inau- gural Iron Horse Award, given to the team mem- ber who has shown the most dedication and improvement in the weight room. Laura Brainard received the Most Improved Award. Kori Pickett earned the coveted Aggie Heart Award, for exemplifying what it means to be an Aggie, always putting the team’s needs ahead of her own while setting a positive example both in and out of the arena, and striving to push others to be their best. Seniors Lia Chaffee and Eliza- beth Solch were presented special career achievement awards, as the winningest hunter seat and flat riders in the history of the program. Finally, team captains for the 2012 season were announced, including Pickett (hunter seat), Amanda Brightwell (horsemanship), and Becca Murray (reining).

Stefanie retired from showing horses in 2011, having competed for 30 years. She now devotes her time to family and vacations. Stefanie and Randy still have her last show horse, Suddenly A Good Time, and Randy’s 3 sons enjoy car- ing for and riding him.


Amanda Cushman of Huntsville re-


ceived a Masters Degree in Agribusiness from Texas A&M University on May 11. The former Aggie equestrian student-ath- lete was Texas A&M’s representative for the Career Athletes Internship for the spring semester.


Jodi Finke and Casey Rice married


on May 12, at Pearce Ranch near Hemp- stead. Jodi works at Don Gonzales Sad- dlery in Bryan, with all aspects of sales, marketing, and design. Casey trains horses for a living, not unusual since his dad is Matlock Rice and his grandfather Sonny Rice. The newlyweds are making Navasota their home.

Scott, College Station was recently elected to serve as the first 9th Grade Student Body President at the new College Station High School opening this fall!


Losses Mr Mito Step(Mario) died on May 5,


as the result of an accident while turned out. The powerful bay 1987 gelding had earned over 1250 lifetime AQHA points. Mario and Tanya Soans earned a total of 23 AQHYA World Show qualifications, as well as many other AQHA awards. When Soans became ineligible for youth compe- tition, Paige Jatzlau of Hearne bought Mario, and she too enjoyed quite a career with the gelding. In both youth and ama- teur competition, Mario and Jatzlau earned 8 saddles, countless buckles, and scholar- ships that put her through school to become a nurse.


Tony Trepagnier, Donaldsonville, LA, died on May 12. The 72-year-old was
