Contributed by Sue Adams The 2012 Arabian Horse
Breeders Alliance (AHBA) world Cup show was held April 14th through 17th at the South Point Hotel and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, NV. With some 300 entries representing the industry's most award winning breeders, this show ranks among the most pres- tigious in the industry and attracts global attention. This marked the sixth annual
World Cup show with all the events hosted at the highly re- garded South Point Equestrian Center. The South Point staff paid the Board of Directors and the Show Committee a great compliment by awarding their "Best Event" honor to the group. The venue ranks as a "best venue" choice among the Arabian crowd with its state of the art accommodations for both horses and people coupled with a full theater style presentation for added drama and ex- citement. Amateur classes opened the show on
Thursday with over $128,000 in prize money split between yearling and two-year-old fil- lies and colts in the AHBA Futurity classes. Many of the horses were shown by their own breeders or owners making these classes es- pecially exciting and meaningful to the par- ticipants. As is the World Cup tradition, an Open-
ing Night Gala closes the first day of the event. This year's party was held at the cur- rent strip hottest hot spot, One Oak at the Mi- rage. By all accounts, this is THE party of the year for the Arabian crowd. Saturday's schedule included yearling
colts and a range of aged classes for stallions with the closing act a new event for World Cup, the debut of the Arabian Breeders Stal- lion Showcase. The presentation was limited to five legends of the breed, U.S. National Champion El Nabila B, U.S., National Cham- pion Enzo, U.S. National Champion Pyro Thyme SA, U.S National Champion MPA Giovanni, and International Champion, WH Justice.
