The annual Clay County 4-H Horse

Show was held May 12, at Red River Cow Palace, in Dean. Skee Burkes took the high-point boy title, riding Smart Move Dulce to win work- ing cow horse, reining, western pleasure, and team penning. Greater Houston QHAhas held 2 of their

3-show Open/PAC Series at the Magnolia Horse Club Arena, with the final one to be held June 2.

The first two were a resounding success. April 8 was a perfect day for a show – beau- tiful, sunny, with little humidity. May 12 dawned after a big rain the night before, with rain still falling in much of the area. Many ex- hibitors called, worried that the show would be cancelled, and when it was not, showed up smiling. Show manager Ava Urbanovsky said, “Thank you, thank you, exhibitors, of which we have the best.” High point champs/reserves for the April 28 event were Claire Beesaw/Kenna Wilson (9&u), Natalie Hamlin/Evelyn Beesaw (13&u), Corina Sto- vall/Courtney Brouilette (14-18), and Mari- etta McCormick/Sandy Galloway (19&+). For the May 12 show, high-point ch/res were Kenna Wilson/Claire Beesaw (9&u), Natalie Hamlin/Shelby Wilson (13&u), and Teana Phillips/Vicki Voelz (19&+).

The Paddock Association, a benevo-

lence branch of The Texas Thoroughbred As- sociation, is funding TAKE2 classes for 5 Texas shows this year. The TAKE2 Program is designed to promote second careers in the show ring for retired racehorses. It offers hunter and jumper classes restricted to Thor- oughbreds, with cash purses funded by mem- bers of the Thoroughbred racing industry. Launched earlier in eastern states, the Pad- dock Association is offering cash prizes at 5 shows this fall in Texas – The Southwest Showdown (Katy, Sept. 20-23), the Fall Fun Horse Show (Oct. 11-14), and the Dallas Harvest Horse Show (Oct. 31 – Nov. 4), with the latter 2 to be held in Tyler.
