Sony has launched three new cameras ahead of April’s NAB trade show. The slow-motion NEX-FS700 and the palm-sized HXR- NX30E are the latest devices in the manu- facturer’s range of NXCAM camcorders, while the PMW-100 (see below) is an addi- tion to its range of XDCAM devices. The NEX-FS700 can capture footage at up
to 960fps. With its super-slow-motion mode, the camcorder is being targeted at produc- tions shooting documentaries, sports, pop promos and commercials. According to Sony, the NEX-FS700 delivers full HD-quality images at 120fps and 240fps in an eight- or 16-second burst mode. It is also able to record 480fps and 960fps at a lower resolution. The camcorder uses an 11.6 million-pixel
4K Exmor Super 35 CMOS sensor. A fi rmware upgrade will enable it to output 4K over 3G HD-SDI to a 4K recorder. The E-mount camcorder has been designed to accept “virtually all” SLR and DSLR 35mm lenses. 3GHD-SDI and HDMI

NEX-FS700: Sony’s new camcorder offers super-slow-motion and full-HD quality images
connectors can output full-HD 50p and 60p, in addition to HD 60i, 24p, 25p or 30p frame rates, with embedded timecode and audio. The camera has a detachable top handle that allows accessories to be mounted. The
handle, which is attached with a rosette mount, has buttons for expanded focus, auto iris, still capture and recording start and stop. The NEX-FS700 ships in June and will cost £6,560.
PWM-100 addresses demand for portability
The PMW-100 is the smallest and lightest camcorder to join Sony’s XDCAM series of devices and has been designed to address a perceived need among journalists and video- graphers for a portable device. Sony Europe strategic marketing manager
Bill Drummond described the camera as “a natural step in the progression of the XDCAM range” and “a direct response to our customers’ requirements”. “Long-time XDCAM users requested a light and compact camcorder that will not only work seamlessly on its own, but also alongside other XDCAM cameras,” he said.
