PRODUCT ANATOMY SONY HXR-NX30E

One of three cameras unveiled by Sony at the start of April, the HXR-NX30E is a lightweight addition to the manufacturer’s NXCAM range. Described as “palm-sized”, the camcorder uses Sony’s SteadyShot

image stabilisation technology for shooting on the move. Sony Europe strategic marketing manager Bill Drummond says the HXR-NX30E is “an extremely versatile fi eld production tool, perfect for journalists”

and other users who might fi nd themselves in situations where using a tripod is not practical, such as on a vehicle or in a crowd. The camcorder will be available in June at a list price of £1,920.

RECORDING AND OUTPUT

The camcorder has 96Gb of memory built in, which allows users to store up to 30 hours of high-defi nition video footage using AVCHD technology. Just under nine hours of footage can be saved at 28 Mbps, the camera’s highest HD recording quality. For extra recording capacity, a dual slot accepts either SD or Memory Stick Pro Duo media cards.

LENS

The camera has a wide-angle 26mm Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens. Sony says it provides high contrast and high image quality from 26mm wide angle to 260mm telephoto. A step-down ring, which is supplied, is needed to mount conversion lenses, which can only be fi tted if the hood is removed.
