CONTENTS A RECORD-BREAKING EVENT ON THE COVER

The numbers are mind-boggling: a 48,300 sq m broadcast centre, 13,000 technicians and 1,000 cameras will capture and deliver footage of athletes from more than 200 countries, who will compete for 1,000 medals. London 2012 won’t just be a welcome payday for outside broadcast companies, kit suppliers and freelancers – as ever with the Olympics, this

summer’s Games will deliver a number of firsts: 3D footage of the Games promises to offer a unique perspective on many of the events, and the Super Hi-Vision screens that will be set up around the UK will give those of us without tickets the opportunity to feel part of the action. With the BBC launching 24 free-to-air channels on cable and satellite

22

platforms, there will be live streams of every sport taking place at the Games. The extensive use of IP, both behind the scenes to deliver footage and by viewers to access content on a wider range of devices than ever before, will be a major theme. Roll on 27 July. george.bevir@emap.com
