Sign to slow lane traffic

A REACTIVE sign to warn speeding motorists to slow down has now been ordered for Thurnham Lane. The sign has been partially paid for out of Maid-

stone Cllr Jenny Whittle’s budget, with the parish having to fund the other 50% - the sum of £1,750. The sign, which will be similar to the one in

Ware Street, will warn motorists of their speed as they head away from the Black Horse into the res- idential area. Members were told it would be a long and dif-

ficult process to get the speed limits changed along Thurnham Lane, but this was a partial so- lution which might help in the short-term.

is in discussion with KCC’s properties department to establish a selling price. Meanwhile, Cllr Jenny Whittle also has a meeting planned with

STAFF from GForces in Caring Lane addressed mem- bers of the parish council about their meteoric rise to success and the company’s plans for the future. Members were satisfied that the company was achieving its aims in terms of job creation and training and listened to a detailed account of the company’s travel-to-work plans. However, after the presentation, members of the pub-

lic raised concerns about the volume of traffic using Caring Lane and the congestion which arose at peak times. Jamie Dixon, from GForces, explained the company operated a voluntary travel plan, whereby some mem- bers of staff opted to car share and others cycled to work. On-site parking continued to present a problem, however, especiallywhenvisiting clients arrived insig- nificant numbers. Staff from GForces have been using a parcel of land

The company, which boasts that it is the UK’s leading provider of internet software platforms and digitalmar- keting to the automotive trade, is likely to submit a planning application for further parking provision. However,Mr Dixon assured members that although

the company had expansion plans, these were likely to involve satellite offices in Scotland and the Midlands, not increased staffing at the Caring Lane head office.
