“Don’t lose sight of either your goals or yourself, ever.”

I attended BHS until I was 11 years old. I have fond memories of BHS - so fond that my daughter is now at BHS in P1 and I have to say, my impression is that the school is even more nurturing and good at feeding the creative soul than it was in my day. I moved back to Bermuda from London with my husband eight years ago and it was then I decided to try my hand. I knew I had a good eye, and had been interested in photography for years, but I have to say, like most artists who continue to grow, I mildly cringe when I look back on some of my earlier work.

I love that I can use the camera as my tool to tell a story and share the way I see the world. I constantly look at other photographers’ works and other art mediums to get inspired. Reading also inspires me as I am so visual that images flash before me all the time when I hear or read words.

“Absolutely continue to learn as much as you can.”

I was at BHS up until the age of 15 and then I attended The Ethel Walker School in Connecticut. Today, I am a full time commercial designer. When I have time, I do my fine art. When I work commercially, I design more on the computer. Usually I will do a quick sketch or a group of thumbnails to plan out a design. Once that is done, I use the computer to create a digital file.

Certainly some of the discipline and focus that was instilled in us in those early years (at BHS) is connected to how I apply myself now.

I would say the curiosity and

wonder of that time can be seen in the more whimsical and playful aspects of my work. How could I forget Mrs. Cooper, who was my first Art teacher? She taught us how to visualize an idea and put it on to paper, to try harder if we gave up too soon. She introduced us to Goya at the age of 12!

For the Art Auction I would like to give one of the fashion items I have designed

recently. It features the ‘Bay Grape leaf’ which is inspired by the natural habitat of Bermuda.
