“If you are inspired then make it happen for your whole life.”

John Gardner ‘65

I was at BHS Primary for a couple of years before moving on to Saltus, but I do remember things like the Surinam cherry trees (no longer there) between Curling and the (now) IB Center, the height of the slide, the dirt at the bottom of the slide, and my teacher Miss Lines. Today, I draw, work with watercolour and am easing into acrylics. The immediacy of art and its freedom are what inspires me, and the act of drawing lines. The highest goal is to create work that has meaning that transcends the work itself.

I attended BHS for 10 years and graduated in 1996. While I was at BHS, Art and Drama were the subjects I looked forward to the most. I just loved being creative, and usually won the art/creativity award. Today I am a full time artist. I work at Dockyard Glassworks and I have been there for 10 years. I am really into 3D work, I have worked with a lot of different mediums, wood, metal, ceramics and textiles but by far my passion is working with hot glass! I get to do what I love everyday, and teach others who share the same passion.

“You always have to be evolving your ideas and pushing boundaries.”

“Do what you really want to do.”

I attribute my fascination with light and color to my childhood spent in Bermuda. I work mostly with oil, pastel and water. I sometimes spend days arranging my compositions with objects that often connote particular seasons or activities. The specific objects chosen, however, do not create the content of the work. The real structure of a painting comes from the movement of color over the surface.
