Adam Davies, co-founder of Seer Green Financial Planning
Who are you and what do you do? Adam Davies. I co-founded Seer Green Financial Planning, working across South Wales and the South West and with our head office in Newport.
What was your first car and what did you think of it? My very first car was a Ford Fiesta 1.1 Ghia automatic! Great car for a new driver, cheap to run and had enough room to fit three mates. It was my first burst of freedom, which lasted six months before parking it at speed in the front of an Audi A3.
What do you drive now and why? At the moment I drive a 15 year old classic Mercedes SL320 convertible. I have always loved the look of these cars, and it’s great to drive, especially with the roof down with the deep burble from the V6 engine. It’s probably the first car I’ve actually bought with passion, and an added bonus is it’s increasing in value!
What is your dream motor? I’m lucky enough to have had my dream car – an Aston Martin V8 Vantage in black, it was awesome – turned out to be a rather expensive hobby though, and after four years decided it had to go!
Would you ever go electric? Why? We already have – our family car is a Lexus RX 450h, which is a hybrid petrol/electric. I’m not particularly an environmentalist, but appreciate the impact of car emissions on the planet, and it
returns amazing economy.
What does a car say about its owner? A car can say many things but for me I guess it demonstrates that I appreciate an enduring, classic style and good quality.
How important is it for you in your line of business to have the car that you do? It’s important to have a reliable car in our line of work as we’re often driving around seeing clients.
What other cars have you owned? First off was the Fiesta, then a Peugeot 205 GTI, a Renault Clio, then two company cars – Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra – then BMW 3 Series Coupe, BMW 3 Series Saloon, Golf GTI, Mercedes CLK, Mercedes E Class, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Lexus RX350, and currently the Lexus RX450h and Mercedes SL320.
What’s your next car? I’m happy with the cars I currently drive. Lexus is simply amazing with its build quality, customer service and the hybrid engine is fantastic. I also love my Mercedes SL and have no plans to change this, however my wife has other ideas – so maybe we’ll consider a Mercedes CLK convertible as a ‘more practical’ replacement.
Favourite road to drive on? When driving the SL, the best road is undoubtedly is the A470 up through Brecon – winding, smooth and undulating roads – superb.
