Lighting up Victoria
On Thursday 24th November eighteen Yr 7 students took part in a lantern parade using lanterns they had designed and made during a workshop with artist Stuart McCaffer. The lanterns were made out of willow sticks or ‘withies’ and covered with coloured tissue paper.
The lantern parade was part of the event ‘Christmas in Harmony’ in Cardinal Place shopping centre in Victoria.

On Tuesday 22nd November, the annual Gym and Dance Display was held at Upper School.
This year there were over 220 performers from Years 7 – 12 participating in a range of dance and gymnastic pieces. The evening involved a multitude of performances that were choreographed in PE lessons and extra- curricular clubs.
7G, 8Y and 9T performed the dances that they had choreographed during PE lessons on the Haka, Kandinsky and Drugs theme respectively. This was a great opportunity for the rest of lower school to see the dances their peers had choreographed on the same topics they had been studying.
There were three fantastic dances choreographed by Year 10 students who have chosen the Dance Leaders Award and Year 11 students who have picked the dance option in Core PE this half term. Their dances were based on the themes of “legends”, “decades” and “girls” and included a range of dance
styles and music genres. It was fantastic to see the hard work and dedication that they had shown in their lessons culminate in a great performance. Our 6th form students were also involved iand Gym and Dance this year and there were three performances that included contemporary, ballet and street dance.
The Gym and Dance Display also gave everyone the opportunity to see the three winning inter-form dance competition pieces. This year the competition was won by 7T, 8C and 9R, who choreographed some interesting and original pieces, which really reflected their hard work as a tutor group.
We were also fortunate to have pieces performed by our extra-curricular dance and gymnastics clubs. Year 8 street dance club performed a fantastic piece that their instructor – Stefanie Freeman had choreographed. There were also two performances from our cheerleading clubs, choreographed by their coach Chanel Williams. As always, everyone was really impressed by the stunning gymnastic pieces, choreographed by
Ms Heiskanen . There were a range of spectacular performances that included work on the vault, beam and floor from the intermediate and advanced gymnastic teams.
In the evening performance, our audience were also taught the routine for the finale, which they then performed along with the students – much to their amazement and surprise! It was a fantastic event and all performers should feel very proud of their efforts and accomplishments. Miss Shaw
