Tara Nelson, Georgia Kasmin and Laura Hall with guest presenter, and one time engineer, Mylene Klass.

On 1st December, a group of students from the A2 Product Design class went to Savoy Place to see the Young Woman Engineer of the Year award ceremony.

The awards were for female engineers who had all worked on a range of projects throughout the past year - from transport, ecology and defence projects, including the secret service! The main prize winner was an RAF helicopter engineer. The job entails her flying to Afghanistan etc; to check that the helicopters are all in order and working properly. She has to inspect every mechanical area to make sure that they are safe to fly. The job she does is extremely important as helicopters are one of the main forms of transport for the RAF.

After the ceremony, which was presented by Myleene Klass, there was a reception, which included free food! The trip was very successful, and all the students very much enjoyed it and found it very interesting as some of us are considering a career in engineering.
