New Novel by Local Author Celebrates the Self
R
achel Astarte Piccione, local counselor and author who
Rachel Astarte Piccione
teaches ongoing writing classes and workshops, has released a new novel. The Bride of Man- hattan, takes readers on a journey to the Self. Outwardly, it reads as a humorous tale of a young woman going through major life changes as she approaches the age of thirty: divorcing her husband in New Mexico, returning to her home-
town in New York City, scrambling to find a job and an apartment of her own—not to mention getting back into the dating scene again. But as the heroine, Garden Tate,
trips, falls, dusts herself off, and gets back up over and over again, readers begin to see a deeper pattern emerg- ing.
Garden discovers—as all of us
do when we step on the path to self- awareness—that finding her true self is no easy task. Although her journey of self-discovery scares her, Garden begins to realize that the whole world is open to her. As Garden reminds herself, “I owe it to myself to not get lazy, to remain open to the world, to welcome all the women I am and could be.” The Bride of Manhattan is available online in paperback and eBook formats at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
In addition to one-on-one private counseling sessions, Rachel teaches ongoing writing classes on Tuesdays at Lift Nyack Yoga & Wellness Center, 42 Main St, Nyack. For more infor- mation, visit
