skin or your thighs? Do you look in the mirror and notice only your per- ceived flaws? Being comfortable in your own skin can be challenging for many people. We often are our own worst critics. Yoga can help bring about acceptance of our bodies while getting healthier at the same time. The prac- tice of yoga unites the body, mind and spirit so it’s easy to understand why this ancient discipline is well-known for its many health benefits. Research shows that yoga can reduce blood pressure, ease stress and improve muscle tone, strength, balance and flexibility. It also can help reduce body fat, improve circulation and support the immune system. An additional benefit is the radical

Breathing and Creating
Presence Many of our emotions and eating pat- terns can wreak havoc on our self- esteem. Yoga teaches us that the present moment is the only time that is true for any of us and we can connect to the moment simply by bringing our atten- tion to our breath. When we surrender and let our breath be the anchor to the moment, we can get more clarity which will help us better determine our true needs. Are we really hungry or is that hunger a symptom of a lack of nourish- ment in other areas of our life? If we are present and not reacting from a place of emotion, we often will make the most nourishing choice, supplying our body with what it needs for optimum health. When we eat without distraction, we find that it is easy to notice when we are satiated without overeating. This not only helps us to feel comfortable physi- cally, but allows for more acceptance and appreciation for our bodies and ourselves.
Letting Go and Acceptance Two of the most frequently studied principles of yoga’s sacred texts are the concepts of letting go and acceptance.
