CONTENTS WELCOME TO BROADCAST TECH ON THE COVER
Arri’s Alexa was used to shoot the second series of ITV1 drama Downton Abbey
Welcome to the first issue of Broadcast TECH. Against the background of a constant stream of product launches, we’re always told by readers that they want more technology-focused news and features. With Broadcast TECH, we aim to respond to those requests with insight and opinion from key industry figures across production, post and playout.
The rapid pace of change is tackled by Downton Abbey DoP Gavin Struthers (In My View, page 11), who says production teams are now confronted by an array of digital cameras that record to a host of digital formats and operate in very different ways. Right on cue, and in support of Gavin’s argument, are details on page 5
12
of two new cameras launched this month by Canon and Red. We track the changes and advances in camera technology in greater detail on page 12, with an in-depth look at the increasing pixel count in the latest cameras and other aspects, aside from greater resolution, that need to be taken into account when striving for the best images. We’re keen to hear your thoughts on the magazine, and we’re always on the
lookout for the most creative and innovative uses of technology in the broad- cast industry, so get in touch to help shape future issues of Broadcast TECH.
